SUMMARY:Post 4th Beach Cleanup at Locust Beach
DESCRIPTION:July 5th is considered the dirtiest day of the year for beaches across the country—Fourth of July firework celebrations leave behind literal tons of debris. In our preferred kind of patriotism\, we’re gathering to clean up what others leave behind and ensure our public places are enjoyable for everyone. We’ll be set up in the Locust Beach parking lot (on the right of Locust Avenue just after turning off of Marine Drive) from 9-11 a.m. Cleanup supplies will be provided\, along with snacks from the Bagelry and Community Food Co-op to fuel hauling garbage bags up from the beach. SUMMARY:Paddle Tour of the Future Salish Landing Park
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the RG Haley and Cornwall Landfill active cleanup sites — future home of the Salish Landing Park! RE Sources\, City of Bellingham\, and the Dept. of Ecology will discuss how the area is being cleaned up and developed into a community park. \nJoin us at the CBC at 9:30 a.m. to get geared up and we will aim to launch our boats at 10:00 a.m. (weather permitting). We will paddle north 1.7 miles with some stops along the way to talk about Padden estuary\, stormwater outfalls\, Taylor Dock and marine habitat. \nAt Salish Landing\, we will witness the cleanup in action and learn about how the site got contaminated. We will then paddle back to northern Boulevard Park\, get out and stretch our legs and hear from the City of Bellingham about how the area will be developed into a park. Some snacks and beverages will be provided but please bring additional food and drink to make sure you stay fueled and hydrated. \nWe’ll paddle back to CBC\, with the goal of getting there by 2:00 p.m.\, putting away boats and heading out by 2:30 p.m. \n\n\n  \nRegister here! \n\n\n  \n\n\n\nItinerary\n\n\n9:30 a.m. – Meet at the CBC\, get suited up and prep boats\n10:00 a.m. – Launch boats\n10:15 a.m. – Paddle north to Salish Landing (1.7 miles) with some stops on the way to talk about Padden estuary\, Stormwater outfalls\, Taylor Dock and fish habitat\n11:45 a.m. – Arrive at Salish Landing\, discuss the cleanup and park development\n12:15 p.m. – Paddle to Boulevard Park for lunch\n12:45 p.m. – Lunch at Boulevard Park\n1:15 p.m. – Launch kayaks from Boulevard Park beach\n1:30 p.m. – Paddle to CBC\n2:00 p.m. – Arrive at CBC\, rinse/put away boats and change out of gear\n2:30p.m. – Done

SUMMARY:Beach Sweep with the Community Boating Center
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 18th | 2:30-5:30 p.m.\nRE Sources and the Community Boating Center partner for summer Beach Sweep paddles where we kayak to nearby shoreline areas to collect debris and help keep the coastline clean. Ages 10+\, $15 to register. Registration is required even if you bring your own boat. \nParticipants work together to pick up trash from their kayaks and along the beaches promoting environmental stewardship. Each event concludes with a barbecue at the CBC for volunteers to socialize and celebrate their efforts. \nRegister here
