Step 3: Classroom Pledge

After completing your workshop, you and your students will have the opportunity to create a classroom pledge - to add one new, sustainable behavior to your regular classroom activities. Every classroom is different, which means every pledge will be individualized to what you and your students do throughout your school day. If you need help creating your pledge, use our instructional guide or contact the Green Classroom Coordinator at schools@re-sources.org or (360) 733-8307 ext. 106.

Water Conservation

We pledge to...
  • Turn off the water while we scrub our hands with soap.
  • Bring reusable water bottles to school instead of using the drinking fountain.
  • Never flush trash down the toilet.
  • Find ways to use leftover water, like watering our plants.

Waste Prevention

We pledge to...
  • Create a GOOS (good on one side) bin for our scrap paper.
  • Be respectful to our school supplies so they last longer.
  • Start composting our classroom paper towels and food scraps left from lunch or snack time.
  • Sort items correctly into landfill, compost, and recycling bins in the classroom or at home.

Energy Efficiency and Climate Change

We pledge to...
  • Turn off the lights when we leave the classroom or have enough sunlight to work.
  • Unplug electronics when they are fully charged or not in use.
  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle paper in our classroom to save trees, natural carbon sinks.
  • Disconnect and participate in activities that only use our personal, renewable energy.
