Volunteer: RE Sources' volunteers are an integral part of our conservation efforts. Terrell Creek- Cogeneration Assessment Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 6 month or longer commitment. Intern will take basic water quality parameters at Terrell Creek, and perform basic literature reviews on the effects and tests to monitor those effects, of stormwater and cogeneration discharges on fresh and marine waters. The data will be used to obtain a certified record of water quality at Terrell Creek. The literature review will be used to determine next steps in a monitoring plan for Terrell Creek, in relation to the proposed cogeneration plant.

Application Requirements: Intern should have background and interest in environmental science. Intern should have their own transportation. Intern must be a student.

Construction Stormwater Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Intern will photo document the use of best management practices at construction sites. Intern will assist in volunteer coordination, and in database/ spreadsheet management. Depending on qualifications, intern may also sample and analyze samples from the different sites after rainfall events.

Application Requirements: Intern should have background and interest in environmental policy, environmental science, or volunteer coordination. Interns should have their own transportation.

Industrial Stormwater Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Intern will assist the Baykeeper in reviewing compliance of facilities with stormwater rules. Duties may include photodocumentation of best management practices at industrial sites, database/ spreadsheet management, and the review of industrial stormwater permit requirements.

Toxics Research -- Bellingham Bay Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Intern will assist the Baykeeper in reviewing pollution discharge permits and clean up documents. Issues that will be researched and studied will include the presence of persistent bioaccumulative toxins, the use of mixing zones and the adequacy of clean up technology.  The intern will be asked to occasionally help out on other timely Baykeeper campaigns and projects.

PBT Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Intern will assist the Baykeeper in pulling together a PBT resolution aimed at keeping the purchase of persistent bioaccumulative toxins (PBTs) , to a minimum, in City of Bellingham purchasing. The intern will be asked to occasionally help out on other timely Baykeeper campaigns and projects.

Shoreline Development Intern

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Interns will assist the Baykeeper in reviewing the critical areas ordinance and shoreline master program ordinances for the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County. Intern will also review shoreline development proposals as they come up.
The intern will be asked to occasionally help out on other timely Baykeeper campaigns and projects.

Skagit County Liaison

Job Description/ Requirements: 3 month or longer commitment. Intern will assist the Baykeeper in enlarging the Baykeeper presence in Skagit County, primarily by  attending and reporting on meetings, and by making sirte visits to assess stormwater discharges. Issues covered by the intern will include stormwater and pollution discharges, and habitat restoration projects.

Community Education Intern, Beach Naturalist Program

Job Description/ Requirements: 1 month, 3 month, or longer commitment. Interns will assist the Beach Naturalist Coordinator in coordinating volunteers and preparing educational materials. The Beach Naturalist program trains community volunteers to act as informal naturalists on local beaches and promotes shoreline stewardship through community education programs. Interns may be involved in a variety of projects, depending on intern interest and organizational need. Application Requirements: Intern should have strong communication skills, interest in working with volunteers and members of the public and some coursework or experience in Marine Biology.
