Take Action

1. Support the Whatcom County Council's moratorium on fossil fuel exports.

The council's six-month moratorium on permits for unrefined fossil fuel export projects holds the line against plans to move crude oil and natural gas by train and pipeline through Cherry Point, until a permanent Comprehensive Plan policy can be put into place. What you can do:

  • Email the Whatcom County Council and tell them you support the moratorium.

2. Support the Whatcom County Council's Cherry Point amendments.

In July 2016, the Whatcom County Council proposed amendments to the Comprehensive Plan that would discourage permits for fossil fuel export projects from Cherry Point. In August 2016, the amendments were sent back to the Planning Commission for further review and public input. The Planning Commission needs to hear from the community that you support these amendments. What you can do:

  • Email the Planning Commission and tell them you support the amendments.

3. Join our community group of Clean Energy activists.

  • Attend one of our monthly Clean Energy activist meetings in Bellingham or Mount Vernon.
  • Sign up for our Clean Energy emails to learn how you can help fight coal, oil, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Whatcom and Skagit counties.
