Charlie Maliszewski, President
Charlie has over 27 years of biomedical research experience.  He initiated and led a number of successful discovery projects at Immunex Corp. and later at Amgen Corp., where he served as Director of Immmunological Systems. Charlie holds a B.S. in Biology from Boston College and a PhD in Microbiology from Case Western Reserve University.

Rick Dubrow, Vice President
Rick is the owner of A-1 Builders, a Bellingham based remodel and construction company. A-1 has focused on green building, and A-1 is gaining regional renown for its emphasis on sustainability. Rick’s educational background includes a B.A. in Management from M.I.T and an M.A. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T.

 

Nancy Taylor, Treasurer
Nancy is the owner of Dream On Futon Company. Nancy has been a small business owner in Bellingham for more than 20 years. She brings a focus on business administration to the board.

Danne Neill, Secretary
Danne is a real estate professional dedicated to sustainable development and environmental issues. Growing up in Western Washington State with a family tradition in real estate, she has been involved in numerous local environmental and civic organizations including:  Kulshan Community Land Trust (Founding Board Member), Sustainable Connections (Charter Member), Community Land Trust of Waldron Island (Past President), Friends of the San Juans, the Nature Conservancy, and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association.

Rabel Burdge
Rabel Burdge is an adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology and Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University, where he taught courses on environmental sociology and social impact assessment from 1996-2004. He is a professor emeritus from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he taught and did research from 1976-1996. He is currently a consulting sociologist and is in his fourth year as a member of the Whatcom County Planning Commission.

Hilary Culverwell
Hilary is the north Puget Sound liaison for the Puget Sound Action Team where she works on stormwater, habitat conservation and land use planning issues. She previously worked as the outreach coordinator for the Cedar/Lake Washington/Sammamish Watershed salmon recovery effort and holds a MS-Environmental Science and MPA from Indiana University.

David Flanagan
David  is a technical writer and computer programmer whose real passion is for sustainability. He has a degree in computer science from M.I.T, and has also holds a Permaculture Design Certificate.  David has lived in Bellingham since 1997 and previously served on the board of Industrial Credit Union.

William McCourt
Bill is manager of the Lummi Tribal Sewer and Water District.  He is retired from the City of Bellingham where he was responsible for water and wastewater treatment for over 20 years.  He has extensive experience working with the regulatory community on environmental issues. Bill holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Huxley College of Environmental Studies at Western Washington University.

Alistair Jackson
Alistair is a green building consultant with O'Brien and Company and brings the board his experience and passionate focus on using business as a vehicle for social and environmental change. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Business Development for the social change oriented digital media company, World2Market/Viatru, and co-founded The Transparency Center, a research and education organization focused on empowering citizens to create and sustain local living economiesHe lives with his family in Birch Bay.

Chris Neros
Vice President & Commercial Loan Officer with Peoples Bank, Chris has 12 years of commercial banking experience.  He recieved his BBA in Marketing from the University of Alaska Anchorage and  MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.  Chris has over 10 years of non-profit board experience, predominantly in the medical field and currently serve on the Revolving Loan Fund Committee for the WEDC.

Heather Higgins-Aanes
Heather has over 25 years with the City of Bellingham, working with both the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments as an Environmental Programs Coordinator.  She holds a BA in Human Biology and Psychology from Stanford University and an MEd in Science Education from WWU. Her passions include mountains, saltwater, clean air and water and sustainable communities.
