Explore the Shore: A Cherry Point Field Trip Saturday, February 25th 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Cherry Point, Ferndale Come on out to Cherry Point and explore the shore! Join the Surfrider Foundation and the WWU Western Action Coalition out at Cherry Point to explore this beautiful aquatic reserve! Local experts Western Washington University Professor John Bower, Marie Hitchman, the North Sound Baykeeper Team's Lindsay Taylor, and a Lummi elder will lead a walk along the beach on Saturday February 25th from 1pm - 3pm. Get to know the rich, unique ecosystem of the Cherry Point Reach and learn more about the area that could become the site of North America's largest coal export facility. Experience the majestic scenery and learn more about our human interactions with this ecosystem. This event will be held outside, rain or shine, so be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes.
Driving Directions: Take I-5 to exit 266 and head west on Grandview Road. Travel for about 5 miles and then turn left onto Kickerville Rd. After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Lonseth Rd. Follow for about 1 mile and then turn left onto Gulf Rd. Parking is available, but alternative transportation and/or carpooling is encouraged.
Bike Ride: Want to save fossil fuels? Bike with us out to Cherry Point! We will meet at the Depot Market on the corner of Railroad and Chestnut streets at 11am. Be sure to bring your helmet and a well-tuned bike! If under 18, please bring a parent or guardian. Ready, Set, Explore Your Beaches! Beach Naturalists are volunteers who help educate the general public on how to protect our beaches, share their knowledge of the amazing marine flora and fauna found in the North Sound, and keep our beaches beautiful. Beach Naturalist events happen throughout the year at Larrabee State Park, Birch Bay State Park, and Semiahmoo Park.
