RE Sources and the Natural Resources Conservation Service shared a 2008 “Recycler of the Year” award from the Washington State Recycling Association.

Farmers and ranchers in northwest Washington found recyclers for hay wrap, twine and field plastics with support from local governments, the Northwest Clean Air Agency and a Natural Resource Conservation Service “Conservation Innovation Grant” program
During the two-year pilot phase of the program, farmers and related businesses in a seven-county area recycled more than 190 tons of plastic through the award-winning partnership.

Thanks to this innovative project, systems are in place for recycling the following materials in the Puget Sound area:
- Ag Bags
- Baling Twine (plastic)
- Greenhouse Plastics
- Hay Bale Wraps
- Mulch Film
- Nursery Containers
- PVC Pipe
- Pesticide Containers (triple-rinsed)
- Other Film and Rigid Plastics
Next steps for plastics recycling in the Puget Sound area include ongoing private efforts by:
RE Sources will continue to help farmers and ranchers, as needed. Our staff will also help promote the recycling infrastructure for horticulture and garden plastics in the Seattle area and a new marine plastics recycling effort around the Puget Sound
